We came out flat and asleep the first 20 minutes and found ourselves down 3-0 to MI.  The 2nd half we woke up and played our game as our players really stepped up their game.  Miranda was just exceptional tonight...reminded me a lot of Gibson Bardsley as everything she touched turned to gold (shot on frame, assist, a corner awarded).  Thought our "D" really was strong the last 40...put a lot of pressure on, won 50/50's, and aggressive play put us in the driver seat with some chances to take the "W".  This game will do us wonders going into playoff time...coming back 3-0 and playing with heart.  That is good to see!  I think Brittany will be ok...she is tough and will be ready.  Lindor, Kiki, Taylor, and Claire filled in that backline well.  We are starting the 3rd half now.....the fun and the excitement begins...all the hard work from August goes into next week.  Three wins to state...one at a time.  Lets bring our "A" game and strive for our 80.

FINAL 2011 SEASON RECORD - 12W-2T-2L

Team good soccer tonight although we tied you came to play , we new M-I would come at us and they did it was just like Lake Washington game, all the team get better as the season goes on, and that s what happened tonight, I thought MI took it to us in the first half, and we took it to them the second half each team both scored in there half, We do believe we left some goals out there. Maddy Hutchinson got are only goal tonight to secure the tie.

Team This was a great season ending with a nice record 12-2-2 very nice you should be very proud of what you did. I want to say you need to keep working hard to make it to the next level some of you didn't take it serious enough, and found out at the end you didn't get chosen for the playoff, you need to come out every practice and game don't assume you have a spot, and that also goes for next year you need to be ready at tryout. There are a lot of good players out there the C team new players coming in, so I would say be ready, and work your tail off every practice and game.

Very good season Greg and myself want to thank you for being good students, and players we really enjoyed coaching you, good luck in your club season.

FINAL 2011 SEASON RECORD - 10W-2T-0L
FINISH SEASON UNDEFEATED!
Game Report: Bronwyn McDaniels - C-Team Coach 10.25.2011

We tied Mercer Island “Freshman” team last night 1-1. We came out last night with our focus intact. Maddie Jones was shut down at every opportunity after almost scoring early in the game. Mercer definitely did their homework since we played their ‘C team’ earlier in the season. Our offense kept up the attack for 80 minutes last night. Hannah Winfrey made some great runs on the goal. Our midfielders kept possession and were able to send the ball through for shots on frame, as well as had few of their own opportunities to score. The defense was kept very busy throughout the game.  They held the Mercer attack to minimal shots on. We held possession and were able to move the ball with linked passes and  through balls. We used our width wisely last night driving the ball in for the cross and scoring opportunities. We scored late in the 2nd half with 8 minutes to go. Maddie Jones drove the ball past the Mercer goalkeeper to score. A few minutes later the ref called a supposed foul in the box giving Mercer a PK. Using our skills and teamwork we outplayed the opponent last night, unfortunately the scoreboard is not a true reflection of how brilliantly the girls truly played last night. Their heart and passion for the game shone through all 80 minutes of play. Well done girls!

On a personal note: I want to say how proud I am of all the girls. They came together as a team to face one opponent after another with great sportsmanship, composure and determination. This is a team that will forever be in my memory as a team who came together for a common goal to overcome adversity with grace.

“The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime.” Babe Ruth

Thank you for the privilege of being able to work with such awesome student-athletes and young women. I will be forever changed by this season. You have helped me to be a better coach and a better person.  Coach Bronwyn

Mount Si girls’ soccer picks up key league win over Bellevue on Senior Night, 10-26
Posted by Rhett Workman on October 26, 2011 SVSJ

The Mount Si girls soccer team has been looking for that one victory that could kick start a strong run into the postseason. Last night, they may have just gotten it, and it was thanks to two top midfielders.

Juniors Miranda Rawlings and Claire Larsen each had a goal and an assist as the Wildcats celebrated Senior Night with a 2-0 shutout of the Bellevue Wolverines which put Mount Si in third just ahead of Bellevue in the standings. The matchup was a preview of the first round playoff contest these teams will have next week in the KingCo Tournament, but the third-place seeding could carry with it a home game in the second round if Mount Si wins that first-round game next week.

Mt Si 1 - Interlake 2

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 10.20.2011

Tale of two half's tonight...1st half dominated play and created many opps in the attacking third.   A quality played 40 minutes.  2nd half, Interlake came out on fire and the tempo switched hands.  Bergstrom and Farrell really played well the last 40 and especially in OT.  We lost our shape which really killed us as runs stopped going forward and put us in a hole.  BIG final week before playoff soccer...Bellevue at home.  SENIOR night on Tuesday and then off to Mercer on Thursday for the finale.  Playoffs start the following week.

Then Ivy, Maddy and Katie, But the night belonged to Claire Hill had two great goals the best game she has played all season, Team this was good tonight we have two games left lets finish strong.

We had our chances tonight but, we did not execute on our opps that we had.  Our runs off the ball need to get better going forward especially in the attacking third.  Big game on Thursday at Interlake.  The last three games will be a playoff atmosphere...we need to bring our "A" game to all of these contests.  It all starts with our mental approach to the game at hand.  Push each other in training to the bar of excellence".

Missed opportunities for Wildcat girls soccer in draw with Juanita, 10-18

The Mount Si Wildcat girls soccer team welcomed in the future of their program last night, as kids from the Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association, along with their coaches and parents, attended the Wildcats’ game against struggling Juanita. Mount Si’s offense themselves struggled, though, and the Wildcats left with a tie that may end up having negative implications for the team going into the postseason. READ ARTICLE

Team...tonight I wanted to see you have more team play, and better movement off the ball, we won 2-0, but we need to get better at ball control, and finishing we could have 4 or 5 goals tonight. We did get two goals the first on a great pass from Mackenzie Popp to Elle Wilson, and then a very nice finish from Mackenzie on a nice pass from Kayla, we thought Mackenzie had a great game tonight best of the season good job, We also got some strong goal keeping tonight Lauren really saved us in the second half good stuff, Team three games left lets finish strong.

Great game last night. We were on the attack most of the night with our first couple of shots in taken in the first 3 minutes of the game. Bellevue’s starting team quickly countered though sending the ball into our end with a few shots of their own. Our defense settled into their positions sending Bellevue down to our offensive third where our mids and forwards linked passes to keep their goalkeeper busy.  We played a tight defensive game, shutting down Bellevue. We ended the half 0-0. Second half Maddie Jones, Hannah Winfrey and Kristin Moore all found the back of the net with assists from Bailey Pfeiffer, Sara Pierce and Brooke Potoshnik.  Our second half play went much better with linked passes, brilliant crosses and well-timed through balls. We worked as a team and it showed on the pitch!  Well done!

Varsity - Lake Washington Game Report:

Mt Si 1 - Lake Washington 1

We played a strong 1st half tonight....thought our backline was very strong.  Kelsey was very strong and led the back well.  Kiki had another strong performance of lock down "D".  Sophia was physical on both sides of the ball and played her role well.  Leah played another strong game tonight....great finish on Miranda's cross.  Corra plays very tough "D" along with getting forward into the attack....very proud of her performance.  Rockow was solid in goal and Lauren got her feet wet tonight which she settled in nicely.  We have Juanita at home on Tuesday and then to Interlake on Thursday...lets get ready for the week ahead.

Wildcat soccer fails to gain ground on Lake Washington
Posted by Rhett Workman on October 14, 2011 SVSJ

Mount Si’s girls soccer team played Lake Washington tough last night, but the end result was not one the Wildcats were hoping for.

The Wildcats failed to gain any ground on the Kangs after a 1-1 draw. LW came into last night nine points up on Mount Si for the second-place spot in league, which carries with it home field advantage throughout the KingCo portion of the postseason tournament. The league’s regular season champion, which at this point looks like will be Liberty, will receive an automatic entry into the state 3A girls’ soccer tournament.

Talking playoffs, Mount Si style...
Posted by Rhett Workman on October 18, 2011 SVSJ

We’re getting now into the stretch drive of the fall sports season and with that, it’s time to talk postseason possibilities. Here’s how things shake down for all the Mount Si fall sports teams at the moment.

Mount Si is sitting in third, just a point ahead of Bellevue, but that really doesn’t mean a whole lot, since it appears those two will open the playoffs with a first-round matchup at the KingCo Tournament. While the format for this year’s event has not yet been announced, based on past years, look for the first round game to be at a neutral site (likely to be Lake Washington), a second game if necessary to be at the home site of the higher-seed team, then the winner of that game would meet a Metro team for the state berth. For Mount Si to make state they would have to win all three games. Lose at any point on the way and it’s over. READ ARTICLE

Wildcat girls soccer, behind key offensive player, doubles up Sammamish

Mount Si’s girls soccer team found its way back into the win column last night behind one of their top offensive threats. Junior Miranda Rawlings scored a pair of goals to aid the Wildcats as they doubled up Sammamish 4-2 at Sammamish High School in Bellevue. Laura Barnes and Alyssa Proudfoot also scored a goal each to pace Mount Si, whose victory enabled them to keep pace in the KingCo standings, where they sit behind both Liberty and Lake Washington. We head back to the ladies for our Athletes of the Week

By: Rhett Workman - SVSJ 10.12.11

MOUNT SI – This one was no contest, and we were witness to it last Tuesday night. As we noted in our game story, sophomore girls’ soccer defender Leah Corra had come into last Tuesday’s game without having scored a goal at the high school varsity level. Well, as you know if you read our write-up, that changed in a big way. Corra scored both Wildcat goals, and they were both very much needed to help Mount Si beat Mercer Island to close out the first half of the KingCo 3A schedule for the Wildcats, and that performance earns her our Athlete of the Week for this week. Corra, a varsity newcomer this fall, has played very well, and coach Darren Brown has offered praise for Corra’s performance. Watch for Corra to become a bigger factor in the defensive efforts for this Mount Si girls’ soccer team. READ ARTICLE

It took us awhile to get going tonight but, our 2nd half was electric as we played direct and with a purpose.  Had a few really strong performances tonight...Brittany Duncan was great in the back and made some quality runs forward.  Miranda Rawlings, Claire Larsen, and Alyssa Proudfoot played solid up top as did Sophia.  Thought Barnes made some quality service balls and a great finish off of a Duncan cross on the 1st.  Good runs in the attacking third and movement off the ball!  CJ filled in nicely for Kiki when she went down...gave us some good energy off the bench.   Lets get ready for LW!

Game Report: Bronwyn McDaniels - C-Team Coach 10.13.2011

We were challenged last night and we rose to the occasion. Great game last night! We held our positions and worked as a team. The defense definitely did their job well. Kaitlyn Lilliberg kept the defensive line of Sara Pierce, Ali Barry, Malia Barrett and Canara Heinke intact, working together to stop Skyline’s offense from too many scoring opportunities. Hannah Wilhelm was key in keeping the score 0-0. Her sense of the goal and where to be were flawless last night. It was great to have Canara back in the lineup. She definitely had impact on foiling the Skyline attacks in the final minutes of the game. Once again Malia Barrett was in the right place, clearing out the defensive third in the critical moments of the game. Our mids had great positioning. Kristin Moore and Emily Johns were able to contain the Skyline mid field for most of the game. The outside mids, Julie Foster, Katherine Ramirez and Bailey Pfeiffer stayed wide so we were able to capitalize with the outside run to go to goal. Maddie Jones and Hannah Winfrey held the top of the field challenging Skyline’s defense. Their ability to lengthen the field with shots on frame was in place last night. The team stepped up to have one of our best games of the season thus far. We still have 3 more challenging games to round out the season. I am looking forward to the remaining games as the team is still improving each time we step onto the pitch!

Varsity - Liberty Game Report: Mt Si 0 - Liberty 3

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 10.06.2011

We gave away 2 goals early which was a momentum killer.  I appreciated the way we attacked tonight against a very tough Liberty squad.  We made some adjustments in the 2nd half and played better as a unit going forward.  Kiki had a strong 2nd half of play and locked down her side which was positive.  We had some good looks tonight and we will take this to the drawing board going forward.  Its time to dig down and take what's ours.

Players of the match:  Kiki Olsson and Miranda Rawlings

Mount Si’s girls soccer team started the second half on a tough note, falling last night to Liberty 3-0. The Patriots scored twice very early in the contest, then cruised the rest of the way to maintain hold on first place within KingCo 3A. “We gave away 2 goals early which was a momentum killer,” said Mount Si coach Darren Brown to the Wildcat girls’ soccer website. Brown vows things will get better. “We had some good looks tonight and we will take this to the drawing board going forward,” he said. View article

Team we played a tough team tonight We knew Liberty was going to be a big test , and that proved to be true. Again a little slow start, but you came on very strong in the second half and we were able to tie the game on a great shot by Elle Wilson, we kept pounding away at them ,but could not get the ball in. We thought you played a very good , our defense was strong again just need to find more goals, Good job tonight.

Game Report: Bronwyn McDaniels - C-Team Coach 10.11.2011

We battled wind in the first half, slowing down our tempo and causing us difficulty finding our focus at the start of the game. But by the end of the first half we began to play our game and our first goal from Kelsey Seiser with an assist by Hannah Winfrey was scored. Second half we came back more composed with linked passes which showed as we played in Ballard’s half of the field for most of the game. Ballard broke through our defense a few times, but our defensive line quickly rallied to stop them before any shots could be made. Malia Barrett did an outstanding job as stopper. She slowed and/or stopped the attacks as well as started several counterattacks. Kristin Moore led the mid field in holding their portion of the field very effectively once some adjustments were made to the lineup. Emily Johns really stepped up as a center mid to help the team to contain Ballard. In the second half Hannah Winfrey put away a goal with excellently executed pass from Maddie Jones. Kaitlyn Lilliberg capitalized on a free kick to score to cement the win. Overall the team adjusted to the conditions and we improved as the game progressed. We are anticipating another challenging game as we face Skyline on Wednesday.

Better execution tonight.  We took a big step in the right direction attacking the frame this evening.  I thought we had some stellar performances from Leah (2 goals) and I appreciated the intensity she brought to the game tonight.  KK played up top very well holding possession and creating some opps.  Ivy made some good runs going forward and held the post spot nicely also.  I appreciated Barnes play on both sides of the ball....good service and fought hard all night.  Miranda had a great shot at the end of the regulation that I think everyone thought was going in (hint...following shot from our attack).  Good job girls on ending the 1st half with a "W".  Now...on to our 2nd half run.

A special night for sophomore lifts Mt Si to win, 10-4
Posted by Rhett Workman on October 5, 2011 SVSJ

Prior to last night’s home contest against Mercer Island which marked the midpoint of the 2011 KingCo 3A season for the Mount Si girls’ soccer team, sophomore defender Leah Corra, a varsity newcomer this fall, had not scored at this level in her high school career. That all changed in a big way, and it helped the Wildcats roll into the second half of the schedule on a strong note. READ ARTICLE

Wow 7-0 Team great start to the season lets keep this up we can go all the way. Tonight we started a little slow again, and played a lot of kick ball. We need to come to the field ready to play. Tonight we got goals from Leanna Brownell on a nice free kick from Hailey Kuykendall, and then in a wild goal mouth battle Claire Hill score to finish the night. Team you are playing real good we need to keep this up, now we start the second half of the season . great First Half.

Bellevue executed nicely tonight and our distribution suffered collapsing our shape for most of the evening.  This cost us and pulled us out of our attack going forward.  We can only get better here on out.  Great goal by Kiki tonight...played her heart out.  We are a second half team...that has been the case over the last three years.  In 2008...we started off 3-3 and ran the table in the second half.  This team can do it...we have to keep chipping away.

Team this was fun to watch tonight now let's keep this going we have a big game Tuesday at home against M-I, come out Monday ready to train, Good stuff.

We got stung tonight but, I thought we played quality soccer for 65 minutes tonight.  We are getting better and that will go a long way as the season progresses.  Isabel Farrell put that shot in a place that no keeper could get to and you just have to tip your hat at that quality of finishing...UW is getting a very solid recruit.  A number of girls had very strong performances tonight...Leah had another great effort and I am very pleased at her learning curve.  The entire "D" line played a strong 80 this evening and Sophia was good on and off the ball.  Lets get ready for Bellevue!

We struggled the first half of the game to find our groove ending the half 0-0. We took to the field 2nd half and settled into our level and style of play linking passes and gaining possession more often. Our mid field was able to create plays sending our forwards and outside mids to goal. Kaitlyn Lilliberg gained an assist to open up the scoring. With Hannah Winfrey and Malia Barrett following up to put two more into the back of the net. Our defense was able to keep Roosevelt out of scoring range. While our forwards kept their defense busy blocking shots on frame. We finished strong and we’re looking forward to another strong opponent when we play against Newport on Wednesday.

Team Good game tonight, although I thought are possession could have been better we are still forcing the ball in the middle, but we finished the week with two wins, Now we have four tough games coming up, so get some rest this weekend and come out Monday ready. Tonight's scorers K-K from Karlie, Leanna from Elle W, Kayla from Ivy, Elle W, and Emma Larson, Good Stuff

C-Team - Mercer Island Game Report: MS 3 - MI 0

Game Report: Bronwyn McDaniels - C-Team Coach 09.22.2011

The girls dominated the game against Mercer Island last night even with Mercer bringing additional players in at the half. We played with better linked passes in the second half. The grass was a little long so it presented a challenge that the girls overcame to maintain possession throughout the game. Our midfielders held the center not allowing Mercer Island to get through to the defense very often. Kristin Moore, Malia Barrett, Ali Barry and Emily Johns were instrumental in our attacks with Maddie Jones, Hannah Winfrey, Emily Johns and Kelsey Seiser in the forward position getting shots on frame and eventually scoring. Katherine Ramirez, Bailey Pfeiffer, Brooke Potoshnik and Julie Foster did an outstanding job in getting crosses to the forwards and taking shots on frame themselves. Our defense, Kaitlyn Lilleberg, Sara Pierce, Nicole Wood and Canara Heinke stayed focused so when the ball did come through they were able to clear it up to our forwards and mids setting up attacks and counterattacks. Overall we played with determination to overcome the obstacles to win a challenging game.

Distribution was a thorn tonight.  Everyone needs to step up for Thursday at Juanita.  Leah and Kristen contained Emma well tonight and played well in that role.   Possession between the 40's and what we do in the attacking third has to be at a level up.  Runs were stale and cost us.  We have to go out with more thunder in our next match.

Team last week we played a Sammamish team that is in the rebuilding year, and were able to tale advantage of them, We scored a lot of goals 9-0, what we wanted to do was hold possession, and work on are shape, we did a good job ,Courtney Wilhelm got the shut out and is player of the match.

Team tonight we played a very strong Lake Washington team they were very physical and took the play at us. Team we started slow and let Lake Washington get a early goal on some bad marking, we need to do a better job at marking and moving with out the ball, we seam to stand around and let other players do the work we will get better, after saying all that after we got scored on Team you came right back on some good passing and got a great goal by Katie Eads on a nice assist by Ivy Paradissis, The second half we came out stronger, but so did Lake Wash, it was back and forth, our defense held up ,and with less than five minuets to play we broke loose on a great pass from Elle Wilson, and a great run and finish by Ivy Paradissis we got out with a 2-1 win. Team good stuff tonight I know some of you are bused up it was a tough match.

Wildcat soccer sinks Sammamish, 9-15-11

Mount Si’s girls’ soccer team bounced back from their loss Tuesday to Liberty with a nice 4-0 win Thursday night over Sammamish. Four different players scored for the Wildcats, who used the late portion of the game to let players play outside of position and give them a chance to try new things. READ ARTICLE

Varsity - Sammamish Game Report:

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 09.15.2011

We had distribution across the board tonight in the victory with goals from Miranda, Laura, Alyssa, and Sophia.  Next week is a BIG week on the road as we go to Lake Washington and Juanita.  Our possession game in the defensive third is quality but, our emphasis will be on playing more direct in the middle third to attacking third.  Thought our runs off the ball were ok but, our service from balls to feet can improve.  Fridays practice is from 230-430.  Lets get ready for the week ahead.

Varsity - Liberty Game Report:

We played a very sound team tonight but, like our post game talk, I like our schedule the way it is laid out.  We have had 3 great contests to get us ready for the duration in league play and we are liking what we are seeing out of our work rate and understanding the system of play which has improved every game.  The rest will come one game at a time.  As long as we work on our fundamentals and stick to what we do...I like our chances going forward.  We got some cardio in tonight  :)   Conference Game 2 Thursday night. Time to get ready.

JV - Liberty Game Report:

By: Coach Glenn Cramer 09.14.2011

JV girls won tonight 2-1, we started out a bit slow tonight , but you stepped it up in the second half, You came out and played more like a team, everyone played much better. Hailey Kuykendall started the scoring in the first half on a great follow up of Leanna Brownell shot off the Liberty goalie, that is Hailey's second goal of the season, We gave up a early goal on the second half, then the team started to gel and put a lot of pressure on the liberty goal, and on a great passing play Katie Eads finished a great build up to put us ahead for good, Team Great win tonight.

The C-team girls played Issaquah to a 2-1 win last night!

Game Report: Bronwyn McDaniels - C-Team Coach

We played a solid game with the team showing poise and determination throughout the 80 minutes on the pitch. Hannah Wilhelm and the defensive line, with Kaitlin Lilleberg directing as sweeper held Issaquah scoreless the entire first half. We broke down only once, allowing Issaquah to score.  But quickly regained our team effort to keep them out of our goal area for the remainder of the game. Our center midfielders (Malia Barrett, Emily Johns and Kristin Moore) held their positions which caused the advantage of attack throughout the game. Up top we had outstanding performances from Hannah Winfrey, Ali Barry and Maddie Jones pressing the attack.  Overall the girls did brilliantly!

GAME TWO RESULTS:

Non-Conference Games JV and Varsity:

  Varsity Defeated Monroe 2-1

  JV Loses to Monroe 2-0

Varsity - Monroe Game Report:

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 09.10.2011

"I thought our defense played great tonight...Brittany and Taylor stood out in my mind as having quality performances.  Maddy was a spark plug off the bench and played well.  We had moments of good play but, mirrored our opponent too much which took away from our style of play.  2nd half was not quality and too much work out of our back from lack of possession which was in our favor the first 40 minutes.  Miranda was electric in the early going which provided us a lot of extra push in the attacking third.  Alyssa and Maddy both had fine finishes.  We have to control our attack more sound going forward into league play which will be an emphasis going into this week.   When all is said and done...a "W" is a "W".  Thought we played a half to our style of play and dropped a bit but, two good preseason matches to get us ready and I like that."

Players of the Match:

Brittany Duncan, Taylor Duncan, and Maddy Hutchison

Wildcat girls’ soccer scores first win of fall, 9-10-11
Posted by Rhett Workman on September 11 - SVSJ

Mount Si’s girls soccer team got all the goals it would need last night in their game against Monroe in the first half, then held on through what looked to be a sluggish second half effort to post their first win of the season.

The Wildcats got goals from sophomore Madeleine Hutchison and junior Alyssa Proudfoot to score a 2-1 win over the Wesco 4A Bearcats from Snohomish County, a victory which gave the KingCo Conference a sweep of the KingCo-Wesco Showcase doubleheader. In the opening game at Mount Si High School last night, KingCo 4A Newport blasted Wesco 4A Mariner 12-0.

Mount Si girls soccer returners are aggressive, deep
By SETH TRUSCOTT - Snoqualmie Valley Record Editor -Sep 05 2011

Cheers go up as Laura Barnes nears the net, then fires a ball over the keeper's head and right under the crossbar for a score. "We just had to win," the senior explained her shot, which drew cheers from teammates on both sides of the drill. "I had to get something done." Getting things done should come easy to Barnes, a team captain and a likely standout player for the Mount Si women's soccer team this fall. READ ARTICLE

"A good test for us this evening. That was a solid squad.....my pick to win the 2A state title. We battled back well after going down 2-0 to tie the match which shows what kind of team we are made of. I observed a few things we will tweak such as our shape and some of our runs but, aside from that.....something we can take forward. Pre-season is Pre-season......to get the rust off of 14 straight practices. We will be ready for league after Saturday. Overall, we battled and that is what we need every night. Time to prep for Monroe".

Mount Si High School girls soccer squad is betting on chemistry - SnoValleyStar.com - August 30, 2011- By Sebastian Moraga

Forget the new classes or the fact that she’s closer to graduation. To Mount Si soccer midfielder Brittany Duncan the difference this year has nothing to do with school. “This year we get along,” she said. The 2011 version of the Mount Si girls soccer team has little of the drama that accompanied its predecessor. With 11 seniors graduating last June, this team carries a lighter load and a broader smile than the 2010 edition. READ ARTICLE

Mount Si’s girls’ soccer team looks to rebound from a tough season last fall. The Wildcats went 8-7-1 last season and bring back a solid group of returning players under veteran coach Darren Brown, who will be coaching his ninth season with Mount Si. He is excited about the season ahead.

“We’re going to be good. It’s a hard working group, a good group of girls. They get along real good,” Brown said, and he added, “More importantly, I think this group’s hungry.” READ ARTICLE

Team great season Not the result we were looking for tonight, but you never gave up, and that what counts. This has been a great season-10 wins 3 loses, and 3 ties. and Everyone on this team played a big roll in are success, and that's what it takes to be a good team. I hope all of you enjoyed your experience, and as I told you to keep working hard over the next year, and come to tryouts ready-for next year. Coach Glenn

SKYLINE Game 10.28.10 - TIE 2-2

We played very well keeping Skyline to one goal for the first 60 minutes of the game. We went to goal quickly with Celine Fowler scoring off an assist from Celena Wassink. Ronnie Wassink came in from the outside to send one in to the far post again with an assist from Celena. The girls set the tone for a tough match from the onset. It was a well played, hard fought game. Our defense worked well together to keep Skyline out of our defensive third. The midfielders all the way across held the line. The forwards did well considering the wind they faced second half.

I am extremely proud of the girls and how they came together as a team to face some really tough opponents and overcome adversity time and time again for a 9-3-1 season. The girls showed composure and solid sportsmanship throughout the season. When other teams broke down physically & mentally our girls stayed strong and played strong. We had a fabulous season and I, for one, am very sad that our season is over.

Varsity Bellevue Game Report:

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 111.02.10

Good season girls...if we want to get back to our state runs of 05, 06, and 08...the bar of excellence needs to rise.  The off-season is not only important but, it is vital to the success of the program.  Strength conditioning and playing year round at a high level is extremely important.

I am proud the way we played during the 2nd half of the season...we turned things around and that took a lot of heart.  It was a pleasure coaching all of you and I wish you the best of luck seniors going forward.  I will see you all at the banquet November 10th from 7-9pm in the Wildcat Court.

Mount Si soccer survives, and now it's on to the playoffs
By: Rhett Workman - Sno-Valley Sports - Saturday, October 30, 2010

Mount Si’s girls’ soccer team came into last Thursday night’s game looking to get another chance. This season has been a struggle, largely because the offense has been inconsistent at best, lacking at worst. But Sophia Rouches’ goal that won the game against Bellevue last Tuesday gave Mount Si and their fans hope that the Wildcats would have more soccer on tap following their Senior Night game with Mercer Island. Mount Si didn’t make it easy on themselves, but they found a way to win and now have a chance to start anew.

Goals by Leslie Stevens, Hailey Conway and Shanna Howland lifted the Wildcats to a hard-fought 3-2 win which sealed up the #4 slot in the league tournament; game one is Monday night at 5:30 against the Bellevue Wolverines at Juanita High School.

Leslie (Stevens), (Hailey) Conway, and Shanna's (Howland) goals tonight were just great finishes and all from seniors on senior night. Just puts the cap on a great regular season finish,” said an elated Mount Si coach Darren Brown to the Wildcat soccer website. “We're really excited for Monday's game against Bellevue and to start the playoffs,” said senior Haley Chase.

The Wildcats and the Islanders battled hard in the first half, but neither team found the back of the net and the two teams went to halftime scoreless. (read article with tournament preview)

Rouches a heroine again for Wildcat girls' soccer, 10-26-10
By: Rhett Workman - Sno-Valley Sports - Wednesday, October 27, 2010

The Mount Si Wildcat girls soccer team has seen solid contributions from freshman Sophia Rouches since she was brought up from junior varsity. But little did they know that Rouches would be author of maybe the two most important goals of this season. The first came with seconds left in regulation to help Mount Si beat Lake Washington October 14; the second came in last night’s game with Bellevue, and not only did it save the game for the Wildcats, it may have saved a season as well.

Rouches, just like at Lake Washington, scored with seconds left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Wildcats to a huge 2-1 road win at Bellevue which now sets them up well for their game Thursday against Mercer Island. A win, and possibly even a tie, will send Mount Si to the KingCo Tournament.

Varsity Interlake Game Report:

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 10.26.10

We played a full 80 minutes tonight of solid soccer.....very proud of our performance and our possession game was very sound this evening.  Another CLUTCH goal from Sophia......that is pretty sweet to have two game winners in one season but, as a freshman is record books.  Sophia scored tonight in the 80th minute with just stoppage time approaching from a feed from Claire Larsen.  Leslie Stevens was a force up top....her physical play created problems for the Wolverines backline and there were a handful of opportunities that were won going forward from her determination on the ball.  Breanne had another good game out of the back along with Alyssa Proudfoot playing very well.  Brittany played a great first half and Lexi and Chase were very tough up the middle.  Barnes and Shanna did a nice job in the middle.  On to SENIOR TONIGHT....we CONTROL OUR DESTINY.

We could not finish tonight which was a mirror of Juanita.  We had our chances but, could not execute and really cost us.  This coming week is must win games to get into the playoffs.  Tonight was a lot like the first half which was not us......we let our guard down and got burned.....it all comes down to these last two.

Varsity Juanita Game Report:

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 10.20.10

I thought the girls played well tonight.....we outshot the Rebels and controlled possession for most of the evening but, just could not put the ball in the back of the net. We had a handful of golden opportunities and I thought it was just wrong to come out of tonight without a point to show for. You have to tip your hat to Juanita's keeper who is just stellar.......Miranda's shot in the 4th minute would have been a goal against anyone else in KingCO and B Dunks shot from 30 out was just a straight bullet that she managed to coral in with hands still on the ball......I was in awe of her a few times during the contest. The good news is we are playing solid soccer now and have really improved. The next three contests we have to take this outcome out on our opponents.....no mercy. Our backline was sound and Chase was just spot on....Lex covered well and put herself in great positioning during the match. Shawna again had a tough role and did a great job on an outstanding player.....Tori Lee. Barnes is playing some excellent soccer right now.....she was just a force and controlled much of the tempo tonight. Leslie Stevens gave us another spark off the bench and contributed with a nice finish. Claire was also very effective on both sides of the ball tonight......and that shot that we were all getting ready to celebrate on......just........a.....half and inch........wide. Good drama through 80.....now, lets finish 3-0 and get ready for the playoffs.

Mount Si's soccer team is climbing up the league standings, and a freshman's heroics proved to be key.
By Rhett Workman - Sno Valley Sports. 10.16.10

Sophia Rouches has been a solid player for coach Darren Brown's Wildcats since the team called her up from junior varsity earlier this season. But the one thing Rouches hadn't got yet was a goal. Last Thursday, that all changed, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

With the game tied 2-2 and likely headed to overtime, a familiar spot for Mount Si this season, Rouches took a feed from Laura Barnes with seconds remaining in regulation and ripped it home to give the Wildcats a stunning 3-2 win over Lake Washington which combined with a loss by Mercer Island catapulted Mount Si into fourth place in the league standings after having been near the cellar.

Rouches was thrilled. "The other team came together and we knew we needed to push for another goal so I came through," she said. (read article)

Mount Si is now 4-5-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference play. Liberty remains undefeated in conference play. Mount Si senior forward Hailey Conway put the Wildcats ahead at the 9-minute mark with a goal, thanks to an assist by senior defender Haley Chase. Mount Si head coach Darren Brown said the early goal prompted the Patriots to pick up the pace. “When we scored in the ninth minute, we knew Liberty would be coming at us like a storm,” he said. “And they did. Varsity Lake Washington Game Report:

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 10.15.10

We showed a lot of heart tonight as the momentum flowed back to Lake Washington's favor in the 2nd half.  We started off the first half playing Mount Si soccer with our aggressive play and controlling the tempo and were rewarded with a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.  Shawna Howland played her game to perfection to what was asked from her and I could not have been more pleased.  Hailey Conway held possession very well for 80 minutes and created great opps in the attacking third.  Leslie Stevens gave us a tremendous spark off the bench with great energy and a tremendous run in the box to put us up 2-0.  I thought she played well and appreciated her intensity.  Miranda worked hard as usual and as well created many chances during the match.  I thought overall, Barnes played a key role tonight.  She was good defensively and got forward to contribute on two key goals this evening.....first the header off a Rawlings feed and then the nightcap feed to Sophia Rouches in the closing minute to end the match.  Sophia really stepped up when we needed a game winning goal and attacked the box with a tremendous finish from Barnes.  That goal was a pure clutch performance and always great to see from a frosh whose play tonight was just a real positive contribution.  Breanne Beckes attacked out of the back well with air tight defensive play and runs forward.  Overall, a great game and solid performance with another "W".  2 wins, 0 losses, and 1 tie to start the 2nd half.....we are mirroring that great 2008 run.....lets keep this rolling.

Players of the Match -  Sophia Rouches (game winner) and Laura Barnes (overall outstanding play).

Varsity Sammamish Game Report:

By: Head Coach Darren Brown 10.12.10

"I was pleased tonight by our possession game.  Thought we did a good job of playing to feet and letting the game come to us at our pace which was fun to watch.  We had a lot of girls step up this evening....backline played great, midfield did a good job of getting forward and service was excellent.  Our forwards up top created some good scoring chances and worked hard.  We reached our team goal tonight and have started the 2nd half the way we have talked about.....lets keep this going.  This season is really taking into shape a lot like our 2008 year where we went 3-3 in the first half and went on a 5-0-1 run in the second.  The magic is there and we are playing better every day.  Proud of the girls performance......big one on Thursday at Lake Washington".

Now....we are playing Mount Si soccer!  Much...much better performance this evening from the ladies.  Thought the girls played real well and there was good pressure on the ball.  Bree and Brit did a good job of getting forward from the back.  Our center mids did great tonight.....Barnsey, Alyssa, and Shawna had great games.  Four players stuck out in my mind tonight for excellent performances......Weidenbach, Chase, Conway, and Barnes.  When we have this kind of production....it becomes a lot easier on our transition game.  I am real proud of tonight's effort.  We talked about our 2008 team tonight....we started off the 1st half with a .500 record and won six straight...winning the league title and finished strong with a 6th place finish at state.  We can do this all over again.....lets keep raising the bar of excellence.  It all starts on the practice field.

Good to get back on track.  Much better tonight.....need to work on finishing which we will work on our transition in the attacking third but, much better tonight.  Lets feed off of this "W" going into Thursday night.

JUANITA Varsity Game Report:

By: Head Coach Darren Brown - 09.24.10

We got hit pretty hard tonight by a Juanita squad who played very well in the attacking third.  We have to keep getting better and it all starts on the practice field.  Work ethic and trusting one another on the field is vital.  When we started the second half....we played 10 minutes of the best soccer we have played all season but, that needs to turn into 80.  We will make mistakes but, it is how we recover from them that will get us over the top.  We have the capability to do so but, it all starts with our mental approach.  We have a lot of season left........support one another and lets keep raising the bar of excellence going forward.

FRESHMAN Sophia Rouches has been promoted from the JV Squad to Varsity and will wear #17 and play forward starting tonight.

Game Report: Mount Si 0  Lake Washington 1   2 OT

From: Head Coach Darren Brown 09.21.10

We got stung tonight in the 86th minute.  Our transition and shape could have been better and is something we will work on going forward.  Thought that we had some opportunities tonight to put the match away but, we just did not execute.  We have to attack the box more frequently and play to feet which was evident in the 2nd half as we pulled away from our style of play.  We face a talented Juanita team on Thursday and need to play with more pace.

Mount Si girls' soccer falls to LW, 9-21-10
By: Rhett Workman - Sno-Valley Sports 09.22.10

Mount Si's girls soccer team was looking to build off a good win last Thursday at Sammamish as they came home for their league home opener last night against LW. However, the Kangs had other ideas.

Lake Washington did a nice job pressuring Mount Si offensively, and although the game went to OT, LW's efforts were rewarded with a 1-0 win. Emma Holm scored for the Kangs in the 86th minute as LW was able to get a ball past Wildcat keeper Courtney Cowan, who made several spectacular saves in the second half to keep the game scoreless to force the overtime sessions. Fellow keeper Carly Weidenbach also did a nice job in the first half to keep the Kangs at bay.

Mount Si's offense had a hard time getting much going; they did have several chances throughout the game to get one on the board, but LW's defense and goalkeeper were both up to the challenge at all times.

The Wildcats drop to 3-2, 1-2 league and will look to rebound against Juanita tomorrow. (article)

VARSITY WINS Tonight over Sammamish 2-1

JV Team Defeats Sammamish Tonight 10-0

Game Report:

From: Head Coach Darren Brown 09.16.10

The result is what is important but, we did not play as well as were capable of.  Our touch was off and our shape was inconsistent tonight.  We have been working on our runs in the attacking third in which this evening we showed in spurts but, the consistency is what I would like more of.  We have the capability to do great things and I know it is only a matter of time.  We have two home games next week in which we can work out some minor kinks.  Miranda and Barnsey had some good combination play tonight.....lets get ready for next week.

Mount Si’s girls’ soccer team is at its most experienced level in years.

Combined with a rebuilding trend affecting most other teams in KingCo 3A this season, that experience could aid the Wildcats in a state drive.

“This year, I expect great things,” said coach Darren Brown, back for his eighth season. With 11 seniors on his team, he is certainly expecting quite a bit.

VARSITY DROPS ONE TO LIBERTY 2-1

JV COMES HOME WITH TIE 0-0

TONIGHT AGAINST LIBERTY

Game Report: By Head Coach Darren Brown 09.14.10

We executed poorly in the 1st half and did not adjust our play in transition.  2nd half was a lot better as we settled in but, down 2 goals had to play catch up.  Lets learn from this and use this game as our motivation going forward. Good scouting report but, got defensive way too early and had a hard time going from d to o the first forty minutes.   There needs to be more support going forward and our runs need to improve in the box to see more opportunities.  Those chances improved in the 2nd half with better movement off the ball.  Time to get ready for Thursday.....

MOUNT SI - The AofW for Mount Si goes to girls soccer player Hailey Conway. Conway, a senior, scored goals in both Mount Si wins this past week, last Thursday over Cedarcrest and last Saturday over Newport. What makes Conway's efforts especially noteworthy is that coach Darren Brown notes in his game report on the Wildcat girls' soccer website that Conway scored her goal against Newport despite having been dinged up a bit after having been fouled just prior - she persevered through the pain and got it done. "You have to love Conway's heart...she is a great leader!" the coach said in his report.

Mount Si girls soccer wins without their top player

By: Rhett Workman - SnoValleySports.BlogSpot.com

Without their top player, the Mount Si girls' soccer team last Saturday continued to follow the theme which helped them win last Thursday over Cedarcrest: strong team play.

And like last Thursday, the Wildcats used that to grab another win, this time a 1-0 result over the Newport Knights in the 3A/4A showcase. Hailey Conway scored the lone goal of the contest for Mount Si in the 60th minute; the goal was the senior's second in as many games. Conway also scored a goal in the 4-0 win over the Red Wolves which opened the season last Thursday.

Mount Si played without senior defender Alexis Pearlstein, out with an ankle injury she suffered in the win over Cedarcrest.

WILDCATS WIN AGAIN TODAY 1-0

Over NEWPORT High School

Regular Season Starts TUESDAY

Game Report: By Head Coach Darren Brown 09.11.10

We possessed well today in the 2nd half and our scoring opps increased as the match went on.  Brittany played an excellent game....physical, read the game well, and did a great job defending.  Chase was great in the air and held the central back position well.  Taylor puts herself in good position and denied any scoring chances today by solid defending as well.  Jess, Barnes, Alyssa, and Shawna did a great job distributing and the 2nd half was fun to watch as some great plays off the ball occurred.  Breanne and Claire had great runs and supported the defense well.  Miranda was electric again at her position....great creativity in the attacking third.  Stevens had two great scoring chances with one called back but, I was very pleased with her effort and proud of the way she has been playing.  Two more shut outs for the Weidenbach/Cowan connection.....160 minutes and counting.  Well done Keeps!  Conway receives our player of the match for two reasons.....getting our result today by scoring in the 60th minute and sucking up her pain on a previous foul and then scoring before exiting.  You have to love Conway's heart...she is a great leader! Good job ladies...2-0!  Lets keep this effort up.

Wildcat girls soccer wins Valley Cup, but pays huge price in process
By: Rhett Workman - Sno-Valley Sports - September 11, 2010

Mount Si's girls' soccer team opened the season with a Valley Cup showdown last Thursday night against Cedarcrest. It was a great night for the Wildcats team, as they played very well in beating their Valley rivals, but Mount Si paid a big price in the process, as they lost arguably their most important player to injury.

Four different players scored for the Wildcats in the 4-0 win, but the injury, to senior defender Alexis Pearlstein, took on the biggest focus, as that could affect the Wildcats' chances this season. Pearlstein, who has verbally committed to D-I Ball State for college next year, collided with a Cedarcrest player in the 30th minute and hurt her ankle. Pearlstein missed the rest of the game. Wildcat coach Darren Brown is confident his team can keep going despite this huge loss. "We're going to have to make do without Lexi for a while, but we have depth. We have 11 seniors this year, they'll step up," Brown said.

Game Report:

By Head Coach Darren Brown 09.09.10

The ladies started the season off the way we talked about tonight.  We have big goals this season and one of them being getting our opportunities up from last year with better execution.  It took us 20 minutes to get going but, the play improved as the night went on.  Our 2nd half was much better than our 1st as we settled down and started playing our game.  Possession was much better as well as our work rate off the ball.  Overall, a great group effort with contributions coming from our keepers, backline, midfield, and up top.  Conway did an excellent job of controlling the tempo and possession as well as Miranda with her pace which I could not have asked for more.  Stevens was a spark off the bench and played quality minutes.  Our entire midfield started working together well and distribution was solid.  Bree's hustle and runs forward were an asset for us but, what I really appreciated was her play on both sides of the ball and recovery.  Jess did a great job of reading the game and her pace throughout the match was evident.  Claire was a difference maker tonight going forward and provided us with good chances in the box.  The entire defense held our shape well....well done "D".  Cowan and Carly both had a couple saves and performed well......hats off to the backline and our keeps for a shut out in game 1.  1-0 ladies.....good momentum and start of the season.  GREAT JOB TONIGHT!

Player of the Match -  THE TEAM.  Too many contributions tonight from different players as well as stand out performances.

Mount Si's soccer season ends in heartbreak

By: Rhett Workman - SnoValleySports.BlogSpot.com 11.03.09

Despite a heroic effort, the Mount Si Wildcats' girls soccer season ended in heartbreak last night as they fell to Sammamish in a shootout.

Sammamish won 2-1, with the shootout going 4-1 in favor of the Totems. Lauren Snead's goal with nine minutes left aided the Wildcats and forced overtime. Anna Geldenhuys, who scored the lone goal last week when the Totems beat Mount Si 1-0, scored Sammamish's goal on a penalty kick.

With the game tied, the two teams went to overtime, then to a second overtime, before the shootout was called. Laura Barnes was the lone scorer in the shootout for Mount Si, whose season ended at 5-9-3. The Wildcats will have some holes to fill, but look for some players to emerge next season, specifically goalie Carly Weidenbach, forward Miranda Rawlings, and midfielder Barnes, who will lead next year's returning group. SnoValleySports commentary: Get rid of the shootout in the girls' soccer playoffs

By: Rhett Workman - SnoValleySports.BlogSpot.com 11.03.09

Last night's game between the Wildcats and Totems ended a way that we wish it wouldn't have ended: in heartbreak for Mount Si because of a loss in a shootout.

One of our pet peeves, and this is true whether it's hockey or high school soccer, is that
you let the players decide the game on the field. Not with a shootout which if you lose can end your season just like that.

Mount Si worked very hard to get the game to overtime, then to have that, and their season, go out the window with one simple series of kicks, is just awful. Even more so on the six seniors whose high school careers ended last night. And even more so on one senior specifically, and we're talking about Marika Loudenback, who didn't deserve to see her season end like this, unable to stop those shots and keep her team's dream alive. One guesses it was a long night afterwards for all the ladies, but maybe especially so for Loudenback.

PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

FOR TONIGHT'S PLAYOFF GAME
By: Rhett Workman - SnoValleySports.BlogSpot.com

KINGCO 3A PLAYOFFS
MOUNT SI WILDCATS VS. SAMMAMISH TOTEMS
SAMMAMISH HS - BELLEVUE - 7:00 P.M. KICK

The Wildcats and Totems played just last Tuesday; Mount Si fell in the game 1-0 to Sammamish, as star Anna Geldenhuys scored in the 70th minute. The Wildcats will have to stop her if they have any chance of succeeding. Another thing Mount Si will have to do is up the intensity. The theme of the postgame comments after last Thursday's game was they needed to see the intensity shown in the last 15 minutes of the Senior Night game against Bellevue, a 2-1 loss, show up for the full 80 tonight. Intensity and consistency have been big issues for this team this year, so this is not new. The question will be is can they walk the talk?

Mount Si will need to win three straight games, first tonight, then Wednesday night at either Juanita or Liberty (we think Liberty since they have the better talent in our view) and then again on Saturday against a Metro opponent. So the road will be tough, but this is a second half team so maybe they will pick it up. (

GAME SIXTEEN REPORT
Head Coach Darren Brown
10.30.09 - MSHS vs SAMMAMISH HS

"It took us 65 minutes to wake up tonight.....Bellevue came out with more intensity and we did not play our game.  Last 10 minutes we had a surge which needs to be the standard of play for 70-80 minutes.  It is the small things....playing to your strength and using your gifts".  We will now be playing Sammamish at Sammamish HS at 7pm on Monday.  We have to control the player of the year (Anna Geldenhuys #8) in order to come out with the "W".

"Good news is we are in the playoffs....bad news is we lost out on home field advantage. Geldenhuys is just a pure talent.......she attacks the frame well and is just a pure striker. We had problems possessing tonight and had very little scoring opps from that result. I thought our attack was not present and we got beat often in the midfield. We have to have better production in the attacking third going forward".

GAME FOURTEEN REPORT
Head Coach Darren Brown
10.21.09 - MSHS vs Juanita HS

"We have got the momentum rolling.....another "W"! 3-0-1 in our last four games and four consecutive games with a shut-out...very nicely done by the girls tonight. We mirrored each others play in the 1st half and felt the starting lineup really came out in the 2nd half with some fire. Great game tonight from our backline, both keepers, and Jessie Hargett. I thought Jess has been an enormous boost for us in her new role with four games under her belt and we are really seeing a lot of distribution out of the back because of her play. It was great to see that winning goal by Miranda for various reasons....the first varsity goal is always the hardest and a game winner is especially special. 78th minute.....a gorgeous run and finish to top it all. Lex is also playing very strong in her holding mid role (physical player and holds possession well). Snead (got the assist) and Robbins had very strong 2nd half's and contributed to our attack on several runs. This puts us in the 3rd seed with two games remaining and a shot to steal that 2nd position and home field advantage. Good game tonight girls....the coaching staff is proud of your efforts this evening".

GAME THIRTEEN REPORT
Head Coach Darren Brown
10.15.09 - MSHS vs Interlake HS

"We played well enough tonight to get the "W" but, at times looked sluggish.  We could have really penetrated the attacking third all night by pushing forward better which results in better movement off the ball and communication.  This has been better of late but, tonight was missing at times.  We have a big game next week vs Juanita and need to start the prep process for a game that will be very up tempo.  With the win tonight, we are now in the 3rd slot with 2 points behind 2nd.  These next two weeks ahead are all about playoff positioning.....home field to the 2nd seed which is always a big plus.  I thought Molly Sellers spelled nicely this evening as did Alyssa again.  This is our 3rd consecutive game with a shut-out....tonight going to Weidenbach who played well.  This season is in some ways mirroring last years 5-0-1- 2nd half run.  We have to keep this going one match at a time".

Three is a magic number
Mount Si girls soccer 3-3-3 after huge week
By: Rhett Workman - SnoValleySports.BlogSpot.com 10.16.09

Mount Si’s girls soccer team had a solid week, and now they have a favorite number: three.

Three wins, three losses and three ties is the record for Mount Si after a week which started out with another potentially season-defining game, this one against Mercer Island.

Against the top team in the league and among the best in the state, the Wildcats, last Tuesday in front of a large crowd as part of SVYSA Youth Appreciation Night, played hard and got a big goal from a key junior to post the upset win.

Alexis Pearlstein scored off a feed from Laura Barnes in the second half to lift the Wildcats to the 1-0 win over the Islanders. “We can get this ship steered in the right direction and tonight was just a little taste of what we can do,” said Mount Si coach Darren Brown, and he praised Pearlstein. “Pearlstein’s been playing great soccer. She’s my wrecking crew, my physical force in the middle and she’s taking on a little (Katie) Woolsey / Kali Roestel in her. She’s just tough as nails and loves the tough assignment.”

The team won despite not having their top two assistant coaches, as both Ben Tomlisson and Tom Burford missed the game as they served one-game red card suspensions following their controversial red card ejections in the Wildcats’ previous game October 8 against Liberty. Pearlstein was thrilled at her team’s accomplishment. “It feels great knowing we can accomplish a lot by ourselves,” she said.

Last Thursday, Mount Si rolled into Interlake and picked up a 2-0 win. That said, Brown thinks the Wildcats may have taken a small step backwards. "We played well enough tonight to get the "W" but, at times looked sluggish,” Brown said in comments on the Mount Si girls’ soccer website.

Even with that, Mount Si finds itself in third place, right behind Sammamish, so if the team keeps winning, the Wildcats look as if they may host opening round KingCo Tournament games on their home field as the #2 seed.

Mount Si hosts Juanita next week. The game on Tuesday begins at 7:30 p.m.

GAME TWELVE REPORT
Head Coach Darren Brown
10.14.09 - MSHS vs Mercer Island HS

"Wow! Great performance tonight...thought we should have had 3 or 4 tonight but, a win is a win and against the 5th ranked team in the state.....we have the ship on track. We are playing with much better pace and poise over the last two matches. I think the girls are really realizing their potential and what they can accomplish if they play together. Very proud of the way we came out of the gates tonight. Very strong performances by many but, Lex and Jess really had a strong games and gave the MI attack fits. Warnke had another stellar game in the back and has been a real catalyst for our back 4. I thought Hailey provided a presence up top by really working hard holding up possession for our shape to get into the attacking third. Meghan gave us a lot of energy for 80 minutes and Alyssa Proudfoot had a great performance tonight spelling in the middle of the pitch. Lets keep this winning streak alive and stick to our 2nd half goals....one game at a time."

GAME ELEVEN REPORT
Head Coach Darren Brown
10.09.09 - MSHS vs Liberty HS

"The intensity is back.  That is Wildcat soccer!  I thought everyone came out strong and played a good match tonight.  Felt our backline was superb.  Warnke was on her "A" game and Jessie Hargett was outstanding in the stopper role for us.  Great distribution and really played the way I have been wanting to see from Jess all year.  Our midfield played with a boost of energy and were getting after the 50-50's.  Hailey Conway, Daniella Romo, and Miranda were all effective.  Hailey did a great job battling a very physical defender for 90 minutes and held her possession well.  I thought we had three really good scoring chances tonight....Barnes set piece, Romos shot that just went wide in OT, and again Conway's breakaway that I thought a PK should have resulted.  Lex played physical and strong in her role and was just what I wanted from her...she is great in that holding mid position.  The Duncan twins spelled nicely for Chase and Besmer and really gave us another element that I like going forward.  Very poised and controlled, contained well, and got forward with pace.  Overall despite the tie result...VERY PROUD of the performance tonight.  Good way to start the 2nd half....we play like this and there will be good results ahead.  Good effort tonight ladies.

GAME TEN REPORT

10.08.09 - MSHS vs Bellevue HS

We have just completed the 1st half and with the loss to Bellevue- there will be some changes in our lineup and our direction going forward.  We are no where near playing to the level that I expect us to be at and most of that is pure execution and mental focus.  This second half we will be getting back to our rotation like we had during the preseason.  I have held back my frosh and younger kids for half the season by breaking them in slowly but, they are ready now to see an increase in minutes.  We worked on goal setting for the 2nd half of the season and look to put up better numbers ahead.

Wildcats fall to Sammamish: What happened during and after game could shape second half of season for Mount Si
By Rhett Workman - 10.02.09 - SnoValleySports.BlogSpot.com

Mount Si senior girls soccer player Meghan Travis has worked the last four years for a chance to be a game-changer on the field. Last night, she was that in more ways than one.

Travis scored two goals, but it was a play early in the second half that she was involved in which ultimately changed the course of the game, and now, maybe an entire season.

Mount Si, behind the two Travis tallies took a 2-0 lead on Sammamish, but saw the Totems score four unanswered goals - three after that fateful play - to take the 4-2 win.

"We had the bull by the horns and we let this one go. We beat ourselves,” said a disappointed Mount Si coach Darren Brown

Played well in the first half.....second half another story. Communication went out the window, movement off the ball, and our game plan was forgotten. This cannot happen. We have played two games during this season where we should have "W's" and we really beat ourselves. Meghan Travis had two great goals and was good to see her going.

"We played the best 20 minutes of the season to start the match...then, our movement off the ball went down and we stopped working for each other. I really thought after our first goal that we were going to close the deal but, we have seen this before. We have to possess and not go into a state of panic when we are in the trenches. This is not just a soccer lesson but, a lesson in life. When things get tough....you need to dig deep. This goes hand in hand with mental focus as well".

Big night for Barnes and Snead to open KingCo Schedule
Mount Si's girls soccer team opened KingCo play with a 2-2 draw against Liberty last night.
Rhett Workman - SnoValleySports.com - 09.16.09

The Wildcats got goals from Laura Barnes and Lauren Snead as Mount Si's defense did a good job shutting down the Patriots' most dangerous offensive weapon, sophomore Cassidy Nangle. "We did some good things tonight. Had some scoring chances as this game’s momentum swung back and forth most of the night, but we did a good job of containing Nangle," said Mount Si coach Darren Brown to the Mount Si girls' soccer website. GAME SEVEN REPORT
Head Coach Darren Brown
09.21.09 - MSHS vs Interlake HS

The girls were a little flat tonight. We had some moments where we played well but, we need to attack the box with more speed. We had a handful of opportunities that were wasted by runs that were not created or being behind the ball. We did some things well that we will feed off of going into Thursdays contest. It was great to see Hailey get off with her first finish this season.....just a matter of time. I liked to see that. I thought Kelly Besmer was electric tonight. Very big game. The 2nd goal by Snead was a great finish....Lauren always puts herself in a good position to score and I have to say that is a scorer mentality. I would like to see more scoring opps next match. Thought there was good service but, finishing was not strong. We will take the "W" and look forward.

We played a good 1st half.....2nd half was a let down.

We played a 40 minute game tonight. 2nd half was purely won by Mercer Island and they came out strong.....we could not hold possession. I said before that Mary Hill and Erin Bourgenon were two of the top 10 players in the league. You can add another in Haas #4 up top. Caused us fits all night with her size and quick first step. Warnke, Chase, and Besmer again had a great game in the back but, we lost A LOT tonight in the midfield and up top could hold possession mostly due to the strong play by Erin #9. Hill has really matured into a force...reminds me of Stanton of last year in this years league. Mercer Island is tough.....a lot of that youth they had before has grown up and are now seasoned Seniors. From the looks of things early......it is going to be a very tough conference again. Sammamish is a returning state playoff team and Bellevue will always be difficult.

"We did some good things tonight.  Had some scoring chances as this games momentum swung back and forth most of the night but, we did a good job of containing Nangle.  Kudos to our backline for doing a great job.  Marika had a great save in the 2nd overtime where we looked really flat as a team.  Hailey Conway had a great game up top and really put in an effort tonight.  I felt Miranda Rawlings was exceptional on the outside......blazing speed and very good runs getting forward.  I thought that shot near the end of regulation with six remaining was going in.  She hit it too well which did not provide any give off the far post.  Lauren Snead and Barnes provided great goals.....that got us on the board.  Laura's run towards goal was outstanding.  I thought the combo of Barnes and Conway was effective and the work rate was top notch.

We played better tonight.....7 starters got rest tonight for tonight's opener and the 6 girls called up for last night's match did a good job.  Real proud of the performance they gave.  I thought Brittany Duncan looked exceptionally well tonight starting on the outside flank and was often matched up with Katie Woodman and Brittany did a good job of holding her down.  We had more scoring opportunities tonight but, could not finish.  I thought Lex did a great job in the center midfield.....great distribution and was a presence.  Tomorrow night is our league opener......when the games count.

"We ran into a buzz saw this afternoon vs Skyline.  Very talented team to say the least.  Tied 0-0 thru 33 minutes of play and then the flood gates opened on us.  You have to take the positive out of a contest like this and that is we have seen two of the top 5 4A TEAMS IN THE STATE.  Skyline being the defending state champion.  We will be ready for league play as there is not a team in the league that contain that kind of speed, strength, and size.  The defense played well today and I felt bad for the amount of pressure that they faced for 80 minutes but, this will be good down the road.

09.11.09 - MSHS vs Eastlake

Eastlake was a very sound team and it is evident why they are ranked 4th in 4A.  Three D-1 Recruits and a handful of top tier talent which stretched out our formation all night long and gave us fits.  That being said, it was good for the girls to experience a team like this caliber in the pre season.  Between Eastlake and Skyline, they will not face another team of that caliber in 3A competition.  We had some good play from some players last night and some that did not have their "A" game which happens.  What concerned me was the scoring times from Eastlake connecting in the 1st minute of the match and a minute after our neutralizer by Barnes.  That is mental toughness which we need to discuss.  I thought our communication in the 1st half was sub par and Eastlake controlled possession for at least 80% of the match last.  There were some holes that were exposed during the course of the night which were evident and will be taken care of.  I am looking for a better showing against the top team in the state.....Skyline on Saturday.

"The girls did a great job tonight with our effort and created some good scoring opportunities.  I was pleased with our contribution from our starting eleven as well as all of our players tonight coming off the bench.  Hailey Conway and Alexis Pearlstein did a good job of penetrating the defensive third and getting forward.  Our midfield was effective in the middle of the pitch with Barnes, Jess, Taylor, Snead, and Travis working on both sides of the ball.  The back three were physical and looked poised throughout the night.  I thought Haley Chase, Taylor Warnke, Kelly Besmer, Ashley Davis, and Molly Sellers give us a physical presence and I liked what they provided for 80 minutes.  Warnke will be an effective weapon this year on sets and is very intelligent in the back.....a great game tonight.  Both keepers performed well and also real proud of what they brought to the table.  Hats off to our four freshmen for getting the jitters out....the first game is always the most rattling and they really brought an element to the pitch tonight.  Miranda with two assists.....not bad for a first game.  Daniella has worked hard over the summer and has created a shot for herself....just a matter of time before she gets some goals for Mount Si.  Good to see Snead start off the year with a great goal of her own.....after all of those post shots we had tonight....the 2nd goal was some relief.

I thought all 18 really contributed tonight but, I have to give the player of the match to Jessie Hargett.  Very smooth, worked hard defensively and really was a difference maker in the attacking third tonight.  The first goal was an electric touch in the far post from Rawlings that got us going.  Next up..... the Seattle Times favorite....Eastlake ranked #4 in the State in the 4A KingCo Conference.  We will be up for the challenge.

Mount Si girls soccer vs LW

By: Rhett Workman - Sno-Valley Sports 09.09.09

Mount Si's girls soccer team opened the 2009 campaign with a 2-0 win last night over the Lake Washington Kangaroos at Mount Si High School. Jessie Hargett and Lauren Snead scored the goals for the Wildcats, who used a special night from a newcomer to help get the job done.

Both goals were assisted by freshman Miranda Rawlings, who was playing her first high school game along with several other frosh.

Hargett scored first, on a one-timer in the 32nd minute, and Snead wrapped it up in the 73rd with a punch-in into the net past the LW goalie. The team as a whole played a crisp, consistent game which, if they are able to maintain that the entire season, could make them a dangerous team come crunch time late in October.

Mount Si girls soccer team looking to defend title

August 20, 2009 Written by Ryan Piersol - SnoValley Star

Think winning a conference championship for the first time ever solves all the problems of a program?

Think again.

The Mount Si girls soccer team had perhaps its most successful season ever last fall, capturing the KingCo title and advancing to the Class 3A state quarterfinals. Still, all that winning did was leave a taste for much more in the mouth of the Wildcats.

“It gave us a lot of confidence,” head coach Darren Brown said. “But we haven’t gotten past that hump of getting into the (state) championship match or of winning it all. That’s where we need to get.”

To do that this season, Mount Si will need to find a ton of scoring in a hurry. Of the many goals the Wildcats scored a year ago, 82 percent of them were booted through by outgoing seniors, including league Player of the Year Nikki Stanton.

That’s left Brown in search of scoring options.

“It’s all about who our goal scorer is going to be. Who’s going to be the two, three kids who finish for us. At this point, I can’t really say,” Brown said. “We have some options, but we’re going to have to have some kids step up.”

Fortunately, the Wildcats appear to have a defense that can carry them in the early going. Goalkeeper Marika Loudenback returns, as do starters Hailey Conway, Kelly Besmer, Ashley Davis and Jessie Hargett on defense. Hargett may move to midfield, where she’ll be joined by Taylor Robbins and Laura Barnes, who each were standouts as freshmen a year ago.

In the front, all that’s known now is that Alexis Pearlstein and Daniella Romo will be relied upon heavily.

“We’re good in the back. We’re very solid there,” Brown said. “But we have our work cut out for us, there’s no doubt about it. It’s definitely within our reach, but it’s not going to be as easy as it was last year. If we have one or two girls who can carry the scoring opportunity that Nikki provided us last year, we’ll be fine. But, if we can’t finish, it’ll be tough.”

Brown said he was impressed by the summer performances of several of the team members, most notably Hargett, Pearlstein and Romo. He also said that several incoming freshman could see playing time right away.

Mount Si could need all the help it’s going to get, because the league is expected to be a rigid one.

“It’s going to be a really tough league this year,” Brown said. “Liberty is up-and-coming, Mercer Island returns two of its top players and Sammamish went to state last year, so they should be good.”

Mount Si will hold its tryouts from Aug. 24-26 from 9-11:30 a.m. in the stadium.
